The grand dame of Jermyn Street since 1946, Franco’s was one of London’s first Italian restaurants. Behind its elegant frontage and Tiffany’s blue drapes famous politicians have shared secrets, society beauties sipped champagne and high-powered business types shaken hands on deals which have gone on to shape London’s economy.

Whether looking for a full English breakfast, afternoon tea or celebratory dinner, Franco’s has you covered. Head chef Stefano Turconi hails from northern Italy yet many of his dishes have their roots in the lemon-scented south of the country.

Courgette flowers stuffed with ricotta and fragrant mint are served drizzled in an intense tomato sauce, while tagliolini is kept deliciously simple with nothing more than clams, courgette, garlic and chilli.

The desserts are as classic as the restaurant’s elegant interiors. Think decadent chocolate mousse with raspberries, Sicilian cannolo alongside tart Amarena cherry ice cream and an intense affogato.
