Founders of the renowned Pig and Butcher in Islington and front-runners in sustainable farm-to-fork dining, The Pig's Head is one for the books in Clapham.
Just look out for their merry pinstriped awning and you have arrived. Housed in a grand Victorian building, this charming gastro pub is quintessentially British through and through. The dining room takes inspiration from the farmhouses that line the British countryside, treating diners to a wonderfully warm atmosphere thanks to the wooden and wicker textures, the plentiful shelves packed with homemade pickles and preserves and the forest of potted plants and ferns. In short, The Pig's Head feels like home.
Their menu changes daily in accordance with the seasons and their local suppliers, but to give you an idea of what's to come, let's take a look at a winning menu from October. Here you'd find buttermilk chicken from Lyons Hill Farm, trout fritters from Chalk Street Farm and Tamworth pork Scotch eggs from Paddock Farm with a delectable Bramley apple mustard. And those were only the starters!
For mains you can find dishes such as the Wild Kentish venison with dining room pickled red cabbage, the ‘Shepherdless’ pie of mushroom & Hodmedod’s ‘Black Badger’ peas or the 35-day aged Lyons Farm “Aurox” Belted Galloway sirloin with spinach, Marmite onions, green peppercorn sauce & beef dripping & chicken salt chips.
Finally, there's nothing like a sticky toffee pudding to round off a splendid British supper. At The Pig's Head, there's always room for dessert.
