From grocery store to restaurant-bar extraordinaire, Joseph Pearce has changed a lot over the years. This New Town address was first established in 1898, later operating as a wine merchant, and now it's one of the go-to spots for fabulous food and drinks in the Scottish capital. A few minutes' walk from Princes Street, the new St James Quarter and the city centre, Joseph Pearce is perfectly placed for a quick pitstop after a busy day at work or a spot of retail therapy. Plus, as well as catering to the grown-ups, it's very family-friendly throughout the day, and canine customers are also welcome.
The food menu is certain to have noses pressed up against the window in the tantalising aroma, with classic Swedish dishes the stars of the show. Using the best suppliers Scotland has to offer, you won't find better Köttbullar and mash with a dollop of lingonberries on the side. There's just something about the recipe that makes it stick in your mind, but it might be the first place for seconds that's hard to forget. With a non-gluten version available, everyone can get stuck into Sweden's favourite bites.
If one delicacy isn't enough for your taste buds, burghers at Joseph Pearce are a mighty fine choice, too. Juicy venison patties are served with oozy applewood cheese, mushrooms, fried onions, lingonberries, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and a horseradish-y twang. As handsome as they come, it almost seems a shame to eat it... almost! The classic burger is also a real knock-out; boasting all the tasty trimmings with the works, it's served on a toasted bun with chips to keep it company. Finish up your meal with fruity kladdkaka, sticky toffee or ice cream dreamy pud. They say it's important to save the best til last, and Joseph Pearce knows just where to find it. Now, who's for drinks?
