A trailblazer in modern British cooking, this classy restaurant in Soho owes its incredible success to Chef Director Oliver Gladwin. A tribute to Gladwin's roots in Southern England, Sussex is the result of a decades-worth of farm-to-fork cooking.
Occupying an enviable spot on Soho's Frith Street, Sussex offers an upmarket dining experience with plenty of rustic charm. Inspired primarily by the Sussex countryside, their sweet canopy out front welcomes diners into their elegant bistro. Intimate and exclusive, the decor is kept to a minimum whilst bold blue banquette brings out that cheeky side of the business. After all, it wouldn't be wholly British without a playful wink here and there.
When it comes to the food, expect unexpected yet genius flavour pairings, painstaking attention to detail and ingredients of exceptional quality. For those who are after a supreme piece of meat, the leg of lamb is nestled on a bed of pearl barley and winter root vegetables, the pork chop reaches new dimensions with pickled rhubarb and the Chateaubriand is simply too good to miss.
As for seafood lovers, they will be delighted by the langoustine and scallop starter, followed by a delicate piece of seabass with sea vegetables. And whilst we're in the British swing of things, a British Negroni seems entirely appropriate. Made with house gin and a generous splash of sacred spiced vermouth, this is the perfect after-supper swig.
