Traditional Izakaya dining in a contemporary setting, elegance meets alternative vibes at this very special Japanese eatery in Old Street.

The social concept of this particular dining style still remains strong at Edo Izakaya, but they've put their own forward-thinking spin on the whole thing. All the sophistication of a fully wood interior and earthy shades meets the fun and informality of takeaways with an illuminated menu hanging above the exposed kitchen. When you think of it, this meeting of worlds encapsulates Japan perfectly; a country that treads the line between tradition and futuristic with incredible ease.

The menu lends itself well to sharing with the likes of bao buns, Japanese tacos, tataki and other small plates primed for plenty of chopsticks and hungry hands. And yes, you read right; they are giving a Japanese makeover to the Mexican taco with fillings like prawn tempura, soft shell crab and spicy tuna.

Of course, bao buns are always a treat and can be found hosting chicken karaage, braised beef rib and meaty mushrooms. If, however, you fancy your own plate, keep your portion away from prying chopsticks with a teriyaki soba or salmon teriyaki. That being said, we can't promise there won't be any double-takes when it arrives at your table.
