Kal Dosa

A tropical taste of Southern India in not-so-tropical Bristol, Kal Dosa is introducing us to all the delights that Tamil Nadu, Kerela and Karnataka have to offer.

Bright and preppy, Kal Dosa is bound to put a smile on your face. With hints here and there of Wes Anderson's famous aesthetic, the restaurant is painted jolly pastels and designed with particular attention paid to painstaking symmetry. Oceanic blues sit alongside summery yellows, and a pastel pink bar adorned with glistening wine glasses and bottles makes for a really upbeat destination that proves to leave!

Due to the sheer size of India, the cuisine changes significantly from north to south. Now we're in the humid climes of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, you'll find dosas at the centre of the menu. The Indian answer to the humble crepe is, thin lentil pancakes are filled with spicy vegetables, masala, mashed potato and marinated chicken for a hand-held unlike any other.

Of course, it isn't India without a selection of curries. From prawn moilee to coorgi pork, garam masala chicken and red dal curry, there's something for every taste, every mood and every dietary requirement. And seeing as you're in the tropical south, you might as well get a suitable summer cocktail alongside your supper. If it's a school night, however, we always find a mango or pineapple lassi that does the trick!
